Elka - Founder of the E-line
by Kay Patterson Sharpnack, Feb. 11, 2007

ELKA - tall, elegant, refined white (dilute appaloosa) North American female was purchased as an adult by Patterson Llamas in February of 1975 from Jerry Berman, CA.

ELKA founded the now famous “E-line” producing a total of 12 live cria: 6 males, 6 females.  ELKA’s influence and ability as a dam to pass on her type, style, and elegance from generation to generation will most probably remain unsurpassed in the annals of American llama breeding.

ELKA was named after a beautiful white Polish Arabian mare and most of the female llamas in this line were accordingly named after the best Polish mares of the Polish “E-line.”  ELKA died in 1990 and is buried at Hinterland Ranch.

Of major impact were:

ECLIPSE PL   1980 M (Dr. Doolittle)  336 registered get

EQUINOX      1985 M (Errol Flynn)  111 regustered get

ESTOKADA   1981 F (Dr. Doolittle) who was dam of ESCONDIDA 1987 F (Zorro PL) and  ESKAPADA, 1985 F(Pagliachi) who produced ESKADRA (The Canadian) – the best of 90 females born in 1989 at Patterson Llamas.
